ENVIRONMENTALLY ENGAGED: Artists reflect on issues and solutions for Florida
A call-to-artists juried exhibition displaying recently completed (within three years) art of all media. It is NOT necessary that the artist lives or works in Florida in order to apply! ENVIRONMENTALLY ENGAGED is seeking artists who use their artwork for developing active strategies and conversations that foster positive change for the natural world. The art should approach environmental issues related directly to Florida’s ecosystems and the troubles facing this state. Examples of topics would be sea-level rise, endangered Florida species, habitat degradation and similar themes.
The jurying process will select works that show not only the problems currently being faced, but also those that provide solutions. Art should be of the highest quality in craftsmanship and composition, emphasizing the theme as the main subject matter and should not resemble a school science project!
THE JUDGE FOR THIS EXHIBITION IS PAUL FISHER
Paul's academic background is in Zoology and Environmental Science, having studied at Southern Connecticut State University. He has always been involved with wildlife and conservation both personally and professionally. He currently serves as an advisor or the boards of the Gorilla Foundation, Rare Species Conservatory Foundations and the Arthur Marshall Everglades Foundation.
Currently, Paul is an art dealer and owner of the Paul Fisher Gallery in West Palm Beach, Florida established in 1990. Since the mid-1980’s he has represented internationally renowned artist Dale Chihuly and continues his relationship with Chihuly selling his work and consulting on major projects. He was a protégé of the great Henry Geldzahler and in the early 90’s traveled with him internationally as a cultural attaché for the US Information Agency.
Fisher is a practitioner of martial arts and yoga and is a long-time vegetarian.

SUBMISSIONS
Artists are invited to submit artwork of all mediums and formats including digital, electronic, ceramic, fiber, jewelry, installation, and sculpture in addition to two-dimensional art that hangs on the wall. Selection will be based on submitted images, and it is possible for an artist to have more than one piece selected for the show. Open to all artists, professional, amateur and students.
Entrants may submit up to FOUR pieces of artwork to be considered for this exhibition. Label the file name for your images as follows: Last name, First name-Title-size HxW.jpg (e.g.: Smith, Jane-PalmTree-20x16.jpg)
Please note that the ArtCenter has a 10’ high drop-ceiling and we do not usually hang artwork from the ceiling grid, but will consider if it is lightweight (under 12 pounds.)
The results of the jurying process are final. No refunds will be made on unaccepted entries.
DELIVERY, PREPARATION and RETURN OF ACCEPTED WORK
Accepted work may be hand-delivered or shipped.
- Hand-deliver to the ArtCenter on Mon., August 17 (10 a.m. -5 p.m., or Tue., August 18 (10 a.m.- 5 p.m.)
- Artwork that is shipped must be scheduled for delivery to arrive ON the following days and times ONLY:
- Friday, August 14 (10 a.m. – 5 p.m.)
- Monday, August 17 (10 a.m. – 5 p.m.)
- Tuesday, August 18 (10 a.m. – 5 p.m.)
Two-dimensional work must be framed, edge-finished or gallery-wrapped and wired, ready to hang. (Please put a label on the back with your name, title of work, medium, size and retail price.) Pedestals will be provided for 3-D works as available. Please contact us with questions about installation pieces. The ArtCenter has the right to refuse to hang artwork not properly prepared for display or that differs from submitted images. Artists with installations that have been accepted may be required to assist in the on-site installation.
FRAMING Two-dimensional work should be securely wired for hanging. “Saw tooth” hangers are not compatible with our hanging system and are often unstable, we will not hang work by this method.
SHIPPING
- Artists pay for shipping both ways. We suggest that you provide insurance to cover the full value of the artwork while in transit.
- Ship via FedEx, USPS or UPS to: Lighthouse ArtCenter, 373 Tequesta Drive, Tequesta FL 33469
- Accepted artwork must be shipped in a strong reusable box via UPS, FedEx or USPS including PREPAID return shipping labels. Return labels must include a bar code.
- Using Airfloat or U-LINE boxes or similar is strongly recommended. No wood crates and no packing peanuts please!
- At the conclusion of the exhibition, artists may: pick up unsold work; donate unsold work to the ArtCenter and receive a donation receipt; or elect to have work shipped back to them as long as shipping costs and proper packaging have been provided.

TERMS & CONDITIONS or GENERAL RELEASE of EVENT
JUROR DECISIONS: Applicants will be notified of the juror’s selections through Juried Art Services. In some cases, artists may be notified by phone or email. Please do not contact the judges regarding your application, they are not involved in the jury process! The results of the jurying process will be final. No refunds will be made on unaccepted entries.
ENTRY PROCESS. Lighthouse ArtCenter is not responsible for entry materials lost in the mail, entry materials damaged in transportation, or malfunctions in entry materials due to human or technological error by the entrant, Juried Art Services or Lighthouse ArtCenter staff. Entry materials of the artists selected for exhibition may be used by the ArtCenter for marketing, press, announcements, etc. and permission to reproduce artists’ work for publicity purposes is deemed given with acceptance. LAC is not responsible for loss or damage to the accepted artwork during the course of the exhibition.
LIMITATION OF LIABILITY. Artwork will be handled with all possible care during the exhibition; however, neither the Lighthouse ArtCenter nor any member, volunteer, agent or visitor of LAC will be responsible for any loss or damage. All artwork and framing should be durable enough for normal handling by the staff during installation and removal of exhibition. Glass is used at the artist's risk. By entering this exhibition artists shall be deemed to agree with the conditions stated.
SALES OF ARTWORK. ALL WORK THAT IS SUBMITTED MUST BE FOR SALE. Artists will receive 60% on sales of their work sold and there will be a 40% commission to the Lighthouse ArtCenter. Please take this into consideration when setting your price. Artwork must be priced in accordance with the artist’s current pricing structure. ALL art MUST remain on display through the duration of the exhibition.
UNSOLD ARTWORK. Must be removed or donated by the conclusion of the events on October 27th. The ArtCenter does not have space to safely store artwork when an exhibition ends. Artwork will be released to a third party only with the prior written authorization of the artist or owner. The ArtCenter will ship work back provided that proper shipping materials and postage have been supplied. Lighthouse ArtCenter will charge a storage fee of $5 per day on any works not picked up by 5 p.m. on October 27, 2015. After 30 days, the artwork will become property of the ArtCenter and may be discarded, donated or sold.
NO REFUNDS. Refunds will not be made on any application entry. |
