Five Years Later by visual artist Birds Are Nice was installed today. This artist uses her work to raise environmental awareness about current issues and the tumultuous relationship humans have with nature.
Five years later [vinyl on drywall, 48 x 57"] is meant to keep the public aware of the events that are still plaguing the gulf coast and all of the inhabitants that call these gulf waters home. According to this infographic (follow the link) by the Mississippi River Delta; there were an estimated 20-60,000 Kemp Ridley's Turtles that died due to direct contact with the oil spill.
Several other species continue to have problems. Dolphin are dying, there were an estimated 800,000 seabird deaths, tarred beaches; Tuna are having heart issues.

Our mural program here at the FAU Jupiter library wants students to start a dialog about the environment. We also want people to recognize how art can play an important role in science communication. Come by and check it out in person.
