Exxpectations

This group show features contemporary art created by 18 women who defy expectations.  Curator statements offer two different points of view from women in the art world: that of professional artist, Brenda Zappitell and that of Cornell Museum curator, Melanie Johanson.  Together, they have selected unique works with a female voice.  Artist commentaries will share perspective on expectations projected on to women in the art world. Artwork included in this exhibition has been shown in galleries and museums worldwide.

Artistically Speaking

One gallery will be dedicated to Artistically Speaking, a major exhibition project being produced by Florida Atlantic University’s Jupiter Library Gallery.  This is a travelling show, with the first stop at the Cornell Museum, with larger versions of the show being exhibited in two locations in Miami during 2016-2017, respectively.

Participating artists include T J Ahearn, Francie Bishop Good, Carol Jazzar, Alette Simmons-Jimenez, Leah Brown, Tina La Porta, Raheleh Filsoofi, Giannina Coppiano Dwin, Birds are Nice, Jacqueline Kern, Dana Donaty, AdrienneRose Gionta and Sibel Kocabasi.

THE ARTISTS OF ART SALON: A COLLECTIVE DIALOGUE

Artists of Art Salon: A Collective Dialogue will present the works of 57 artists, all of whom have been presenters over the last three years at Elle Schorr’s Art Salons. The works will fill three galleries at both the Armory Art Center in West Palm Beach and the newly renovated, mural covered Armory Annex Gallery in Lake Worth, FL.

Paintings, sculptures, installations, and videos using a wide variety of mixed media will address a breadth of social, cultural, and aesthetic concerns. This exhibition features nationally and internationally recognized contemporary artists who are currently producing powerful, innovative work in the world of art.

Art Salons at the Armory have contributed to the understanding of contemporary art practices in South Florida since March, 2012. Presentations have been given by artists, writers, curators, gallerists, and collectors about their work, the work of well-known artists, and about professional artists’ development. The Armory Art Center is honoring the Art Salons with an exhibition this October, curated by Elle Schorr, founder and organizer of the Art Salons at the Armory.

Treasure Tuesday to begin

(Formerly Free Art Friday) hosted by the library

Based on the success of Free Art Friday, the Jupiter FAU library is continuing its campaign on campus to encourage people to start thinking about art. Students, faculty, staff and even motivated community members will be able to participate on different levels, depending on how inspired they become.

What is Treasure Tuesday?

1.      Every TUESDAY morning, the library staff will pick a unique location on the Jupiter FAU campus to leave a small piece of FREE ART! (Both indoors and outside!!)

2.    They will then take a partial photo of the art in the location it was placed —to give a hint as to where you can find it.

3.    They will tweet the picture every Tuesday morning.

4.   Anyone who follows the library on twitter @FAUjupiterly can find the photo; then start the scavenger hunt on campus.

5.    First person to find the art gets to keep it!

6.   The only thing we ask in return is that you tweet us back with the photo of you holding the artwork to @FAUjupiterly tagged with #treasuretuesday

We WELCOME any artists or crafty folks to donate a small artwork that we can give away. The more we get— the better it will be to see what free artwork you can score. JOIN IN!! You can drop off your donated artwork at the front desk in the library.

Local exhibition

Artist spotlight: Karla Walter

Local artist, Karla Walter focuses on animal messengers. Taken from her artist statement; "As an artist, it is important to recognize a message and seize that moment. Crows are messengers, omens for change. Several personal encounters with crows have compelled me to express my personal creativity through this messenger. This body of work explores the similarities between the social interactions among crows and that of humans. To know the crow is to know ourselves. This is the journey I have taken with this body of work".

Artists for Climate Action

There is a group of  creatives that have a new facebook group --their mission is tackling climate issues in South Florida. An excerpt from their page reads "Artists for Climate Action is a place for artists interested in bringing their artistic skills and creativity into action to address the effects of climate change. We welcome artists from anywhere who wish to share how they are taking action on climate change with their art. Emphasis in the discussion will be on how Florida resident artists can effectively collaborate with new and ongoing activist climate campaigns in Florida. Posts on forms and aesthetics of activist art group members find particularly effective or useful to consider are also welcome, whether or not they are directly related to climate change."
