The West Palm Beach Alternative Book Fair 2018

The Box Gallery initiates the first national alternative book fair in West Palm Beach. From coast to coast artists, authors, photographers, and cultural icons of the punk and queer culture come to celebrate the visions of the past and share their visions for the future. From uptown to downtown, high brow to low brow, there will be a series of talks lectures, and presentations that span almost a half of century of documentation beginning from the early 70's to present. 

This event is co-organized Rolando Chang Barrero and Sandra Schulman.

The use of language has evolved dramatically with the advancement of technology and how it influences our lives. Texting and emails have replaced older methods of communication and our lexicon includes new words and phrases. Utilizing words in art is nothing new: think Ed Ruscha or John Baldessari, the Ancient Egyptians or the art in Medieval Churches across Europe. This exhibition will showcase the work of 15 professional artists in Palm Beach County that feature “words” as their subject matter and muse.

 Svenja Deininger Second Chances First Impressions

February 4, 2017 - April 16, 2017

The Norton’s sixth RAW (Recognition of Art by Women) exhibition will premiere the first solo museum exhibition of Svenja Deininger (Austrian, born 1974) in the United States. Deininger is one of a new generation of abstract painters, aware of the rich history of abstraction, yet creating complex canvases originating from her sophisticated, knowledgeable and intuitive response to process, imagery, and materials. This exhibition of 22 canvases has been assembled with the artist’s participation and explores specific themes of the last five years. The Norton’s annual RAW exhibition was founded in 2011 through generous funding by the Leonard and Sophie Davis Fund/ML Dauray Arts Initiative to promote the work of living women artists. A publication will accompany the exhibition. Organized by the  Norton Museum, Cheryl Brutvan, Director of Curatorial Affairs and Curator of Contemporary Art.
