Artist spotlight: Colleen Sidey

Colleen Sidey is a ceramic artist who currently lives in South Lake Tahoe, CA.  Colleen was born and raised in the San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles, CA.  In 2004, Colleen graduated with Honors with a Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art from Humboldt State University.  She continued her education as an artist-in-residence in the Ceramics Department at San Jose State University from 2005-2007.  In 2007 and again in 2014, Colleen was invited back to Humboldt State University as a visiting artist and guest lecturer.  She has exhibited her works throughout the United States and has had her art featured in galleries, colleges and at the John Michael Kohler Art Center. Colleen’s sculptures have received numerous awards by noted jurors such as Candice Groot, Richard Shaw, and Patti Warashina.  Since 2009, Colleen has worked as an Art Instructor at Lake Tahoe Community College teaching Ceramics and Figure Sculpture classes.  She enjoys living in a woodland wonderland surrounded by wildlife and vintage cabins and making art in her home studio.

Artist Spotlight Diana Farfan

Diana is a full time artist and cultural agent. She was born and raised in Bogotá, Colombia. Her fondness for ceramic sculpture goes back to her childhood, when the pre-Columbian figures and colonial architecture were her focus of interest. In 1999 she received a BFA in Ceramics and Printmaking at Universidad Nacional de Colombia in Bogotá, Colombia; and in 2010 she obtained a MFA in Ceramics and Sculpture at University of South Carolina, Columbia, USA. She also studied at the University of Anchorage, Alaska, and at the Tainan National University of the Arts in Taiwan as exchange student. She currently lives, works, and teaches in Greenville, South Carolina, USA. Besides offering, “Play with Clay” classes at her own studio and workshops at diverse art centers; Diana is an art coach for Hispano-Latino Artists. She serves as member of the board of directors of Palmetto Luna Arts, a non-profit that promotes Hispano artists and Latin Culture in South Carolina, USA.

Studio visit with Nicole Galluccio

IHP Curatorial Lab recently spent the morning with artist Nicole Galluccio in her studio. We learned about the motivation for her work and discussed the direction of her art practice. She will be soon be having a solo show in Delray Beach, FL and is working toward that project.

About: 

Nicole is a painter using acrylic and paper on canvas. Her work finds inspiration in fashion, pop culture, comics, music and media tabloids and incorporates those ideas into a visual explosion of color contrasting against a black and white paper collage background.

Biography:

Galluccio, originally from New Jersey. Began undergrad education in Biochemistry, originally intending on a career in medicine but somewhere in the middle decided she loved medical and biological illustration and switched over to a Fine Arts major. She found a love for painting and over time, the work evolved into more of a vibrant pop art, with a fond affinity for graffiti and street art [and the underground arts culture and movement]. She has a studio at the Boynton Beach Arts District.
